The Gratitude Aptitude Test in Engineering is also known as GATE. This exam is conducted every year. The organizing institute of the GATE Examination this year is the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IITKGP). This year two new papers were also introduced – Geomatics Engineering (GM) & Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering (NM). Gate Examination will be Computer Based Test (Online). Those candidates who are studying in the 3rd year or higher year of any undergraduate degree or already completed course program in Technology/ Architecture/ Engineering/ Science/ Commerce & Arts are eligible for the GATE 2022 Examination. GATE 2022 Exam will be conducted on 5th, 6th, 12th, 13th Feb 2022. Any candidates who want to give an examination then visit https://gate.iitkgp.ac.in.

The question type in GATE 2022 Examination is Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) & Numerical Answer Type (NAT) or Multiple Select Question (MSQ). GATE Examination will be conducted online and over 8 to 9 lakhs students apply for this entrance exam every year.

Highlights and Criteria for GATE Examination 2022:

    1. Age Limit – No age limit for any candidates can apply for GATE Examination 2022.
    2. Eligible Criteria – Any candidate who is studying in his 3rd year or final year of degree Or has completed a Government degree program in Technology/ Engineering/ Architecture/ Science/ Commerce/ Arts are eligible for the GATE 2022 Examination.
    3. Those candidates will qualify for Gate Examination their Scorecard is valid for three years after the result of the announcement.
    4. This year two new subjects also included:
      • Geomatics Engineering (GE)
      • Marine Engineering & Naval Architecture (NM)
    5. Questions are of one or two marks question in the GATE examination paper.

GATE 2022 Patterns

Gate Examination contains three different types in all the papers.

    1. Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
      • Each question carries 1 or 2 marks each.
      • Questions type is objective & four options are given in which one option is correct.
      • Negative Marking in MCQ – If 1 marker MCQ get wrong – 1/3 mark get deducted & for 2 marker MCQ wrong – 2/3 mark get deducted.
    2. Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) –
      • Each question carries 1 or 2 marks each.
      • Questions type is objective & four options are given in which more than one option is correct.
      • No Negative marks in Multiple selected type questions.
    3. Numerical Answer Type (NAT) –
      • Each question carries 1 or 2 marks each.
      • In NAT type of questions, the answer is in Decimal or real number form.
      • It is better to provide NAT type of answers up to three decimals places.

Marks Distribution for GATE Examination:
In all GATE Examination papers, there will be a total of 65 questions with a total of 100 marks paper.

    1. General Aptitude Questions:
      • In all papers of GA question carry a total of 15 marks.
      • The GA sections include 5 questions each carrying 1 mark.
      • The GA sections include 5 questions each carrying 2 marks.
    2. Questions paper other than GE, AR, XE, GG, XL & XH
      • The paper contains 25 questions each carrying 1 mark. & 30 questions carrying 2 marks each consisting some of MCQ & the remaining will be MSQ & NAT type of questions.
    3. Geomatics Engineering (GE) paper
      • Apart from the General Aptitude paper consists of two parts.
      • Part-A 55 Marks, Part-B 30 marks
      • Part A is compulsory for all the candidates & Part B consists of two sections. Section I or Section II. Candidates have the choice of any one section from these two sections during examination time.
      • Part-A total questions is 36 with a total of 55 marks in that 17 questions carrying one mark each & 19 questions carrying 2 marks each.
      • In Part-B including (Section I or Section II), there is a total of 19 questions with a total of 30 marks. 8 questions carrying one marker & 11 questions carrying two markers with a sub-total of 22 marks. Some are MCQ & the remaining will be MSQ & NAT type of questions.
    4. AR (Architecture & Planning) Paper
      • Apart from the General Aptitude paper consists of two parts.
      • Part-A 60 Marks, Part-B 25 marks
      • Part-A is compulsory for all the candidates.
      • Part-B consists of two parts Part(B1) – Architecture & Part(B2) – Planning.
      • Part A is compulsory for all the candidates & Part B consists of two sections Part(B1) or Part(B2). Candidates have the choice of any one section from these two sections during examination time.
      • Part-A consists of 39 questions with a total of 60 marks. 18 questions carrying one marker & 21 questions carrying 2 markers. Some are MCQ & the remaining will be MSQ & NAT type of questions.
    5. Geology & Geophysics (GG) Paper
      • Apart from the General Aptitude paper consists of two parts.
      • Part-A 25 Marks, Part-B 60 marks
      • Part-A is compulsory for all the candidates.
      • Part-B consists of two sections. Section I – Geology & Section – 2 Geophysics
      • Part A is compulsory for all the candidates & Part B consists of two sections. Section I – Geology & Section – 2 Geophysics
      • Candidates have the choice of any one section from these two sections during examination time.
      • Part-A – 16 questions a total of 25 marks. & Part-B – 39 questions with a total of 60 marks. Some are MCQ & the remaining will be MSQ & NAT type of questions.
    6. XE Paper (Engineering Sciences)
      • Candidate appearing in the XE paper has to answer these sections:
      • The General Aptitude contains a total of 15 marks.
      • Section A – Engineering Mathematics (Compulsory): This section contains 11 questions carrying a total of 15 marks of which 7 questions carrying one mark each & 4 questions carrying 2 marks each. Some are MCQ & the remaining will be MSQ & NAT type of questions.
      • Any two sections B to H of XE: The choice of two sections from B to H can be made during the time of Examination.
      • Each optional section of XE paper from sections B to H contains 22 questions with a total of 35 marks.
      • 9 questions carrying 1 mark each & 13 questions carrying 2 marks each. Some are MCQ & the remaining will be MSQ & NAT type of questions.
    7. XH Paper (Humanities & Social Sciences)
      • Candidate appearing in the XE paper has to answer these sections:
      • The General Aptitude contains a total of 15 marks.
      • Section B1 – Reasoning & Comprehension (Compulsory): This section contains 15 questions carrying a total of 25 marks of which 7 questions carrying one mark each & 9 questions carrying 2 marks each. Some are MCQ & the remaining will be MSQ & NAT type of questions.
      • Any one section C1 to C6 of XH: The choice of one section from C1 to C6 be made at the time of filling an online application form. Candidates cannot change the section at the Examination Hall.
      • Each optional section of XH paper from sections C1 to C6 contain 39 questions with a total of 60 marks.
      • 18 questions carrying 1 mark each & 21 questions carrying 2 marks each. Some are MCQ & the remaining will be MSQ & NAT type of questions.
    8. XL Paper (Life Sciences)
      • Candidate appearing in the XL paper has to answer these sections:
      • The General Aptitude contains a total of 15 marks.
      • Section P – Chemistry (Compulsory): This section contains 17 questions carrying a total of 25 marks of which 9 questions carrying one mark each & 8 questions carrying 2 marks each. Some are MCQ & the remaining will be MSQ & NAT type of questions.
      • Any two sections Q to U of XL: The choice of two sections from Q to U can be made during the time of Examination.
      • Each optional section of XL paper from sections Q to U contains 19 questions with a total of 30 marks.
      • 8 questions carrying 1 mark each & 11 questions carrying 2 marks each. Some are MCQ & the remaining will be MSQ & NAT type of questions.

Scholarship through GATE Examination

Scholarship GATE Examination:

    • To avail of a scholarship the candidate must secure a seat in Central Government Institute by a procedure it can differ from institute to institute.
    • If a candidate is selected in any program the institute takes a test/interview of that candidate & if clear the interview then-candidate is selected for the program whom they selected.
    • As per MoE guidelines 70% weightage is given to the performance of GATE Examination score & the remaining is for interview & academic marks taken by the institute.
    • Institute itself can decide a minimum of passing marks of test/interview.
    • Candidates are advised to take complete details from the chosen institutes for the scholarship.
    • If candidates qualify in GATE Examination then they are also eligible for state & central government institutions.

How to Apply for GATE 2022 Examination?

GATE 2022 Examination starts from 30th August 2021. Those candidates who want to fill the application form then visit the official website of Gate https://gate.iitkgp.ac.in.

    1. Registration process: Candidates themselves have to register themselves through the GATE Application Processing system by entering their name, email id & mobile number. If candidates have registered for Gate Exam then they will get an enrollment id. Candidates should change the password while logging in to the website for future purposes.
    2. Filling of Application form: After registration of candidates, a application form will appear in that candidate should provide their Academic degree details, Address including pin code, College name & address with pin code, Gate paper selection & choice of GATE Examination cities.
    3. Uploading Images: After filling the an application form candidate has to provide a photograph, signature & category certificate if applicable.
      1. Photograph requirements: Good quality image not blurred one, File size must be a minimum of 20kb & maximum of 200 kb, Background of the image must be white in color.
      2. Signature requirements: File size must be a minimum of 20kb & maximum of 200 kb, Signature with dark blue color or black only.
    4. Fee payment: Pay the application fee through online mode.
